Straight
It speaks for itself. Straight staircases have no directional change and are uncomplicated in design and installation. Whether they have open threads with no risers, or they’re covered in carpet, straight stairs will usually have an accompanying handrail for support.
L- and U-Shaped
L-shaped, or quarter-turn staircases, turn at 90° somewhere between the ground floor and upper level. U-shaped, or half-turn staircases, bend back at 180°. In both cases, our bespoke joinery and carpentry company will install a small landing at the locations of these angled turns.
Winder
Turning at 90°, winder staircases are similar to L-shaped installations but have wider threads on the turn rather than a small landing. Winder staircases tend to be in older Cirencester properties where the staircase is located just inside the front door.
Spiral
Ideal for loft conversions where our talented team at C Smith Carpentry & Joinery Ltd can also fit made-to-measure wardrobes, handmade furniture, and even fitted kitchens, spiral staircases add a contemporary touch to any home. It takes a while to get used to them, however.
Curved
This continuous flow of steps gently sweeps around the bannister’s curve without any landing. They are more ornate and, for our clients who like the idea of an architectural statement in their Cirencester properties, beautifully crafted at our bespoke joinery.
Bifurcated
A bifurcated staircase rises to a central landing before separating into two parallel staircases which continue at 180° to the original steps. Sweeping, grand, and seen in the majority of historical buildings, they are a credit to the joiners and carpenters who originally made and installed them.
