Hardwoods
These come from deciduous trees, i.e. slow-growing trees which shed their leaves coming into the winter months. As their growth is prolonged, they are denser and more capable of producing tougher timbers. Hardwoods are darker in colour and well known for being more durable. These benefits can increase the price tag somewhat but the investment is definitely worth it as they are chosen by many of our carpentry company and bespoke joinery’s Marlborough clients due to their aesthetic.
Examples of hardwoods include:
Softwoods
Faster growing than hardwoods, softwoods are derived from coniferous trees. These evergreens are recognised by their needle-like leaves, scales, and cones. Due to the fact that softwood trees grow faster, harvesting the timber is a quicker process which makes supply more efficient. As a result, softwoods are cheaper to purchase. They are also lighter in colour and tend to be favoured by C Smith Carpentry & Joinery Ltd’s Marlborough clients who prefer contemporary handmade furniture, Scandi-style made-to-measure wardrobes, and paler-coloured fitted kitchens.
Examples of softwoods include:
Manufactured Woods
The timber industry uses every aspect of a tree’s trunk, limbs, and smaller branches. It’s a completely recyclable trade, with these woods created by combining off-cuts, timber waste, sawdust, and adhesives. Manufactured woods are available in larger sheets with each one the exact same size and thickness. This is ideal for large-scale construction. If our carpentry company uses manufactured woods for bespoke joinery, we can add a layer of natural wood veneer in order to make the finished product appear more aesthetically pleasing.
Examples of manufactured woods include:
Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF)
If you’re unsure which timber will suit the project you have in mind for your Marlborough property, i.e. handmade furniture, made-to-measure wardrobes, or fitted kitchens, give our carpentry company and bespoke joinery a call. C Smith Carpentry & Joinery Ltd works with a variety of hardwoods, softwoods, and manufactured woods, producing the highest quality materials every time.
